Fibromyalgia ~ Water - The Ultimate Health Drink

Water - The Ultimate Health Drink

By Yvonne Keeny
Our bodies are more than 65% water. Water is essential for every bodily process. Besides carrying nutrients to your cells and waste matter from your body, water acts as a natural lubricant to limbs and joints.
Unwatered houseplants quickly droop. Similarly, lacking adequate water, your body may respond with a sluggish, drained feeling. The thirst mechanism doesn’t kick in until dehydration becomes serious. To stay ahead of dehydration drink at least six to eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day in order to replace the fluid lost through breathing, bodily elimination and perspiration. If you begin feeling tired, drinking a large glass of water can give you an energy boost within less than an hour.
Well Water
Public authorities routinely find that many private wells are contaminated with bacteria, agricultural chemicals, or other pollutants. You can have well water tested by a variety of public or private sources.
Tap Water in Municipalities
While municipal water systems are required to monitor for an increasing variety of contaminants, they are often forced to produce water which is highly chlorinated or do not look good, taste good, or smell good. Therefore many people are turning to water filters. Look for water filters that remove heavy metals, cancer causing organics, lead, amoebic and giardial cysts, asbestos fibers, and chlorine as well as sediment particles.
Bottled Water
Bottled water is regulated by the FDA as a "food" and is required to meet essentially the same minimum standards as public water systems. There are no other special regulations regarding purity. Some bottled water is simply tap water that has been bottled elsewhere. Some bottled water is "natural" which means it is not treated at all. This is okay if it has been tested.
Since there are no broad standards for bottled water, so you need to read the label. Water that has been treated by reverse osmosis, deionization, or distilled has most of the minerals removed. Therefore, it is wise to take a mineral supplement when drinking water treated with these methods. Look for production dates and shelf life dates on bottled water. Water can grow bacteria or pick up tastes and odors from the container. Plastic bottles often leach contaminates into the water. Also look for glass bottles instead of plastic whenever possible.
